Are you ready to buy or register your domain name?
How to Buy | Register a Domain Name

If you’re wondering how to buy | register a domain name, don’t sweat it! Here are some simple steps to take before, during, and after the process. It’s easier than you think to get a great domain name.

As the Web becomes more popular, the domain names are becoming scarce. It can be difficult to find a domain name that best suits your company because so many other people in your field might be thinking of the same domain name. So, you must be creative and brainstorm a little while to decide on the right domain name for you.

How to Brainstorm when Buying a New Domain Name

Coming up with a great domain name can actually become a family event. You can spend quality time with your family while trying to brainstorm for the right domain name. Even the kids will enjoy trying to think of great names – they might even hit the jackpot and pick a winning domain name!

Write down these four things before getting started:

*Your company name.

*Your products or services.

*Who is your target audience?

*Are you planning to do heavy advertising and branding for your domain name or small-business marketing?

These four factors can help you come up

with a great domain name. When you buy | register a domain name, you must consider these things before getting started because they will help determine how effective certain types of domain names will be.

Why Not Just Use My Company Name as my Domain Name?

You shouldn’t use your company name as a domain name unless your company is well-known to the general public, or you plan to make it well-known through heavy branding. The only other time you should use your company name is if the name is short and simple, and if it reflects the type of business you operate.

For example, if you own a company called “The Roland Brothers” and sell children’s toys, then the company name is not related to the product you sell. Visitors to your site will have a difficult time remembering this domain name.

However, if your company name is “Tot Toys, Inc.” you could easily secure the domain name “tot-toys.com” or something similar if that one is not available, and you’ll still have an effective domain name. This all depends on what you have to offer and how the company name relates.

Otherwise, follow these simple rules to buy | register a domain name:

*Keep it simple.

*Keep it short.

*Avoid excessive dashes or other symbols within your main domain name.

*Choose a “.com” domain name if possible if you plan to operate an online business. Or, choose “.org” for an organization, “.edu” for an educational site, and so on.

That’s all there is to it for brainstorming! As you’ll see in the next step, to buy a domain name is easy, choosing it is usually the hardest part!

How to Buy | Register the Domain Name after Choosing One

Once you have a great domain name in mind, you must go online to a “Web Hosting” site or “Domain Registrar” site to check for availability of that particular domain name. Most web hosts also offer domain registration, and will allow you to check availability for free.

You can check as many domain names as you want at no charge. Some sites will even offer alternatives for your domain name if it is unavailable. So, visit your chosen host or registrar site and locate the “Register Domain Name” form. Type in the domain name you have chosen and select a suffix (.com, .org, .net, .edu, etc.).

Then, submit the domain name to check for availability. If the domain name is available, you can continue registering it right then and there or you might want to shop around for a cheaper price before registering your domain name.

Finding a Great Registrar and Web Host

<a target="Blank" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://Finding” target=”_blank”>www.ixwebhosting.com/templates/ix/v2/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=thanaads”>Finding a great registrar and web host doesn’t have to be rocket science. If you choose to shop around before you buy or register a domain name, it’s best if you can find affordable hosting and domain name registration together with one company. However, it is not required that you host your domain name at the same place where you register it. It’s your choice.

Remember, domain name bills only come once a year, but many hosting companies charge monthly. By shopping around, you might even find a company offering a <a target="Blank" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://huge” target=”_blank”>www.ixwebhosting.com/templates/ix/v2/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=thanaads”>huge hosting discount if you pay by the year!

Be sure the company is reputable. Look for companies that are established on the Web. Ask around at discussion forums to see who everyone else is using and to get some feedback. It’s worth doing research because you will be with your web host and/or registrar for many years to come.

Once your domain name is registered, you can secure hosting for it. You will probably be required to wait up to 48 hours for your domain name and hosting to be set up. Once set up, you can start loading your web pages at your new domain name. And…. you’re in business!

It’s not difficult to buy | register a domain name, but the whole process can be confusing for beginners. I hope this will help you better understand how it all works.

Remember – a reliable web host is priceless. They are the lifeline of your Web business! You can take a look at all the features offered by IX Hosting just by visiting IXwebhosting.com.

There is a feeling of skepticism and remorse for expired domain names and this is true when you consider the low probability of selling an expired domain name for a decent price. However, the fact remains that some of the good expired domain names do possess very good value, while a number of others can bring you unexpected riches and dividends as well!

Here are a few guidelines and suggestions that can help you understand know the immense potentialities of owing your expired domain:

a) Increasing frequency of unsolicited offers to buy an expired domain: If you receive a number of unsolicited offers to buy one of your expire domains, then you have a great opportunity to sell one of your domains. It also clearly shows and exhibits that someone is really looking for your name! It is also the right time to fix a good price for the domain on request and sell it off immediately, when you perceive that the selling price is just right.

b) The nature of the domain name extension: Do you have a .com extension name with you? Generally, a .com will have a higher asking price, when compared to other extensions. A good .com expired domain name will have a good prospect of selling at a very high price.

c) The length of the expired domain name: Shorter is always the better! Shorter expired domain name better will be your chances of selling it to prospective buyers. If you have a shorter expired domain at your disposal, you can always bargain for a better price.

d) Do you have a hyphenated expired domain at your disposal? Hyphens may help you retain the clarity of the domain name. However, they can seriously reduce the real market value of the domain name. If you own an expired domain name with a hyphen in between the letters or words, then the perceived market value will be much lower.

e) Do you have expired domains that spell incorrectly? If your expired domain name contains any misspellings or syntax errors, then you may find it very tedious to sell that domain. Above all, there are chances that you may get into trademark and copyright violation and infringement issues.

f) Do your expired domains contain singular or plural wordings? If you have an expired domain contain a singular word, then the prospects of selling that domain becomes very brighter. On the other hand, an expired domain name with plural words will have little commercial value.

g) Does your expired domain contain prefixes or suffixes? Prefixes and suffixes will hurt the real selling value of your expired domains. Never ever attempt to buy expired domains that comes with a prefix or a suffix.

h) Is your expired domain name too long? How many words are there in your expired domain names? Shorter the domain name better will be the prospects of selling it. Shorter names will be easy to remember and recall, while it is also flexible enough to type a short name on the browser address bar.

If you are thinking of collecting expired domain names or if you wish to sell an existing expired domain name, then ensure that you are learning more about the real potentialities and prospects of your expired domain names.

In this video I discuss the importance of turning your domain names into online destinations. The domain investing world began with parking, evolved into mini-sites and is now taking a move towards greater interactivity. Recorded in beautiful Santa Barbara California this video will show you how to take those mini-sites one step further and increase the value of your domain investments!
Help answer the question about name domain
What should expect to pay for a domain name that another company owns and is willing to sell?
I own a company and the domain name is already taken and used by another company that only uses it to redirect people to there main site. So they dont even need it. I contacted them and they are willing to sell me the domain name. She told me to make her an offer and I am trying to figure out a ballpark figure to offer her. Please be realistic. Thanks.

Domain registration is generally very easy. In fact you can simply contact your local domain registrar and give your details like name, address, contact info and of course the name of the domain you want registered and your domain gets registered. Alternatively you can simply go online to your domain registrar’s website and if the facility is provided just fill out a simply online registration form with your name and other details and submit to register your domain. It’s as simple as that.

The problem arrives generally for most of us after the domain has been registered. We keep hearing all these words like name servers, domain pointing and forwarding, domain locking and other things which make it all a nightmare. But it is not as bad as you think. Domain management, once you understand the various aspects to it, is actually a very simply task. We look at some of the aspects in domain registration and management which you might have to go through while setting up your website.

Name Servers

Name servers are probably the most common words used after you have registered a domain. Your hosting company will tell you to change your domain name servers to their address in order for your web hosting service to function properly. So what are name servers?

To put it in simple language, name servers are the name of your server. It basically tells a domain where your website files are located so every time someone types your domain name in their browsers, the domain exactly knows where to go to show your website files – your homepage etc.

Name Servers generally look like this:

Assuming you are hosting with xyz hosting company then your name servers should generally be:

NS1.XYZ.COM

NS2.XYZ.COM

Note the NS could be followed by 3 or 4 depending on your hosting company. Your hosting company will generally provide their name servers to you when you register with them.

Domain Forwarding / Domain Redirect

Domain forwarding or also know as Domain redirect means if you have multiple domains registered and you want one of your domains to quite simply point to another domain that you have as an active website.

This technique allows you to have a single website be available under multiple domains. For example you can register your domain in both .com and .net format and then make the .net domain address forward to your .com website. That way you don’t have to spend on having two different websites hosted for each of your domain extensions.

Domain Locking

This is quite new to the world of domains but is a very important one and you should always be aware of your domain’s status – i.e. whether it is locked or unlocked.

Now, how does domain locking make a difference to you? Firstly if your domain is not locked, then malicious software or hackers have the ability to shift the domain in to their name or shift the domain’s name servers on to their web site which could cause lot of embarrassment to you. Not just that in some cases, hackers can pull the domain from your domain registrar to theirs, giving them full control of your domain.

In general you should always make sure your domain is in locked status. Of course when you need to change the domain’s name servers etc for your own use then you can unlock a domain. But always make sure moment your work is done and the name servers or any other information you are trying to change has been completed, immediately lock your domain. If you can’t lock or unlock your domain, please contact your domain registrar regarding this.

Help answer the question about domain
What are the best websites to find public domain images of countries around the world?
I need to do a whole project containing exclusively images coming from public domain websites and I was just wondering what was the best source for that.
Images coming from Google are not accepted, they have to come from a public domain website and sometimes it's really hard.

Thanks in advance.
domain.">

How can you choose the best domain for the efficiency of your
offline and online marketing? Brand name versus business name.
Hyphenated or not? Which is the Host Server for your new website?

1) What is a domain name ?

A domain name is the location of your website on the internet,
it is also the location of your company, or your private
enterprise in the immense internet market. In case a domain name
named the same with your offline brand name, location, hotel or
restaurant, tour specialist, local region or community which is
well-known in tourism market, you have had a big advantage than
different competitor. Because of:

*	You will receive targeted visitor tourism your website, For
example: You are a travel company who supply some kind of
Trekking tour in the favorite Nepal, your chosen domain name
should be: Nepal Trekkingtour Nepal-trekkingtour
Besttrekking-Nepal… and so on Visitor will find very easily to
communicate with a travel company which has the name is the
description of the kind of services they are finding, and you
will better in persuading your client because they are all
prospect visitor. *	Your website will be listed in Yahoo! In
Travel Directory and other Search Engine results. Imagine when a
visitor want to spend a trekking tour in Nepal, he decides to
search internet to find a good supply among a thousand of sites.
He chose Google, for example, and enter keyword of his wish: ”
Nepal + trekking tour”. And a a result of choosing a right
target domain name, your website URL and a short description
will appear at the sight and he clicks.

But remember, whether he chooses your services or not depend on
a process of building credibility which originate from: your
site design, your respond, the price, your level of professional
and much more…

But you have had an advantage when you have chosen a right
domain and your prospect client has seen you among thousand of
competitor. 2) Domain name extension: .com

Each domain has what’s called an extension. The most well known
of these extensions is .com. This extension is encouraged to be
used most, because it is tightened in the mind of all the people
around the world. All the surfers tend to enter it after almost
domain name. So because it long time used at the beginning of
internet era so it difficult to chose a good domain name. COM.
..net

If you can’t find your preferred .com domain name you could
always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might
not have the same ring as a .com but is still as just useful as
a .com. .org

These domain extensions were originally designed for educational
and more formal websites. As a tourism organization, we can use
it. But all of it are enterprise such as hotel or travel
company… it is not recommend to chose it. .info

A more recent introduction to the domain name game are .info
domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up
overnight but there’s still a huge range of good .info domains
available. Bear in mind that most web. Not recommended.

..travel

This is a newcomer, we can use it well because it is to identify
all the tourism and hospitality website. A new rule…

There a great article about “.travel” by the link below:

http://www.tourism-internetmarketing.com/ITtourism/1/20.htm

There are many region extension: uk, us, vn, … which is suite
for your online tourism partner to used to indicate our region
location and services. It also an advantage for inbound tourism
and hospitality supply. A visitor is seem to put his truth on a
local professional supply, certainly! 3) Brand name versus
Business name: We are hardly to know exactly whether to chose a
domain name actually reflect our real business or establish a
new brand name online and promote it. A right choice is base on
your own case after give a careful consideration on marketing
strategy of our company. If you are a well-known company who
want to target the inbound visitors, get your long time famous
brand name is the right choice. Because your client will see it
easy for them to find your web and remember it as you are famous
ih their mind.

But if you want to take advantage of the global market, a
business name enclose with the region maybe a better choice.

Try to register a domain which contains a popular keyword
applicable for your industry. This will help your customers
remember your domain name better. Furthermore, for searches
conducted in Yahoo!, a higher ranking will be given to those web
sites which contain the keywords in the title. And according to
Yahoo!’s instructions, the Title should always be the official
name of the site. Thus, if the domain name contains a keyword,
you will be able to include the keyword in the Title which will
improve your ranking in Yahoo!. As a minor side-benefit, this
can also help to increase the ranking of your web site in some
search engines.

Tourism Marketing Forum. Click the link below to get a forum
CODE=00> 4) Hyphenated or not This is another area of debate.
Should your domain be one single word or should the words be
separated by hyphens? There are advantages and disadvantages to
both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to
explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names
very well.

Single word domains are in very, very short supply.

Hyphenated domains names can be slightly more difficult to
explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly
harder to establish as a brand name. There’s no shortage of
multiple word domains.

The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that
searche engines can “read” the domain more easily. For example
in a domain like www.foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine
can only read the first word “foreign” and that’s it. It can’t
tell anything else about the website domain name. If you
hyphenated that to www.foreign-holidays-online.com the search
engine can read “foreign”, “holidays” and “online” as separate
words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign
holidays.

A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as
a single word domain name.

5) Don’t make your primary domain too long. Even though 67
character domains are a reality, exactly how many of your users
will want to type a domain name like
thebesttrekkingtourinnepal.com?

6) Chose the supplier: There are many domain suppliers waiting
for you out there online, the best choice is find out a
well-known web servers who always supply the services Domain
name registration. A good domain name .com will can be get at
the price of 15 $, but you can buy it cheaper as the price of
7,95$.

Are there any disadvantages in using a discount domain
registrar? Will it affect your website in any way? The answer to
both is a definite No.

Free stuff sites make up a very decent percentage of all sites
on the internet. You can get anything from free screensavers to
free software to free iPods to free vacations on the internet.
Obviously other than a very few select products none of them are
‘truly’ free. They are not even a ’shareware kind’ of product.
Most of these schemes will expect a certain action to be
performed to claim the ‘free stuff’.

Normally, signing up to an offer from an advertiser, referring
friends to a site or service or buying a related product all are
examples of the ‘actions’ expected. For example, the free iPod
offer that took over the internet by craze works on the premise
that each person will refer 5 of their friends to the scheme as
well as sign up to a few sponsor offers himself.

What is surprising is that out of all these offers, there are
very few that are webmaster-centric. You hardly find offers for
free domains, free webhosting or free traffic when you sign up
for an offer. This is probably because the cost of these
services or products are too low to warrant much interest. It
can also be that webmasters prefer more direct forms of rewards
like cash.

It is not that there are absolutely no free domain offers on the
net. There are a few but their ‘action’ expected is either to
buy hosting or to sign up and post at forums. The first scenario
is a little scary because most web hosting companies will
register the ‘free’ domain in their own name. So if want to
change the web host, you lose the domain name and with it all
the hard work you put in to develop the brand image. That leaves
the posting at forums option. Well, if you asked me to post, say
50 messages and all of reasonable length (atleast 10 – 15
words), it will take me a month. This assumes that I also have
something better to do! I cannot wait that long for a domain
even if it is free.

From experience, it is seen that a webmaster will never refuse a
free domain name. For that matter no one will will refuse a free
thing if there is no catch involved. A webmaster should be
willing to sign up for a free offer or two in exchange of a free
domain. If such a scheme were available it should be quite
sucessful. May be not as much as the free iPods schemes but
atleast 50% as effective as them. If the free offer does not
involve disclosure of credit card information, it will be the
icing on the cake!

This is exactly what I have been working out. You sign up for an
offer. If it is a valid sign up then I buy you a domain name. No
credit card information required and no obligation too. That
simple. The only condition is you must be from the US and must
fill up the information required (name, email, address etc)
honestly. As soon as I recieve confirmation of the signup
(usually 2-3 days) you get your domain name. And, yes these are
not pharmaceutical or gambling offers, you need to sign up to
recieve more information from an online education university.
Can it get better than that? Visit

As an expired domain trader looking for a good domain name, you may face a number of difficulties and challenges like fierce competition, lightening quick registration by your competitors and exorbitantly higher buying prices. To avoid all these hassles and to buy very good domain names, you can use a number of domain backordering models offered by well known backordering services. Here are some of the famous and recognized domain backordering models made available by backordering firms:

First Model that offers services by individual and separate registrars:

Some well-known registrars offer this model by refusing to delete the expiring domain name especially at stage 2. However, they may assign a particular domain name to an individual, who has paid the required fee to backorder the domain. Examples of registrars are: http://GoDaddy.com and http://eNom.com.

Second Model that offers services with the help of Coordinated Registrars:

This model offers a single window, application point for backordering a domain by multi-registrars. You may need to submit a request through http://SnapName.com web portal which eventually works with the registrar of a particular domain just before the final deletion. Examples of registrars are: Network Solutions.

Third Model that offers services with the help of the Registry:

All of us know that VeriSign controls the registry and it has the power to guarantee that any domain names deleted at stage 2 is redistributed to an interested buyer, who has registered to VeriSign’s much hyped Waiting List Service or WLS. Any ICAAN registered and approved registrars can offer this service. It offers you two distinctive parameters when compared to a standard registrar type of model.

a) First, registrars offer this to those people, who can opt to offer a particular domain to their customers,

b) Second, only the registry has the complete control over the domain names that reside in the third stage

Tip: If there are no pending backorder requests for any domains forwarded through WLS, the said domain name will advance to the fourth stage after which dedicated software can grab it for immediate purchase.

Fourth Model that offers services by using automated registration software:

You can capture those domains that pass the registry at sixth stage. Using good software, you can send electronic requests for registering a domain with the help of an ICAAN accredited registrar. However, this is perhaps the most famous model that poses you several challenges that concerns how quickly you are grabbing an expired domain name. With good software, you can post simultaneous requests at the same time.

Fifth Model that offers you service by using a Multi-model Strategy:

To enhance your chances of winning a good domain name, you may need to use all the above mentioned strategies and models by subscribing to respective services. However, a number of expired domain name traders are approaching VeriSign to use their WLS service to bypass the registrars, who always delete expiring domain names paid and registered through them, provided there is not backorder requests made against those domains. All these models require considerable amount of skills and dedication from you, before you can grab a good expiring domain name.

Many people are now buying expired domains based on the number of backlinks or the ranking of an expired domain, only to discover that these have mysteriously disappeared a month or so later. Is it that the search engines have black listed the domain, or could you have done something at the beginning to prevent this from happening?

There are several checks you should do before purchasing an expiring domain, to avoid losing all the value after you have purchased your expired domain.

One of the main reasons that an expiring domain can look attractive is the number of backlinks, but a word of warning – sometimes search engines can treat one domain exactly the same as another – same ranking, same backlinks, same everything. This can come about as a website based on a domain name can have several other domains pointing to this same website. For example, domain.com could be the main domain name, but domain.net may also be pointing at the same website. Depending on how the domains have been set up, some search engines will treat domain.net exactly the same as domain.com.

One way of finding the number of backlinks to a domain is by doing a search on a search engine using the word “link” followed by a colon and then the URL of the domain, eg link:http://www.domain.com

Using our example, if you were to check domain.net and found it had thousands of backlinks and soon to expire, then you may be tempted to purchase the domain name the second it expired. Once purchased you would then go about setting up a website on your new domain expecting the visitors to be pouring in. At this point, domain.net no longer points to domain.com and so any affiliation to domain.com stops. The search engines will no longer treat domain.net the same as domain.com, but will now treat it on its own merits. This normally results on zero backlinks and no ranking. You will have lost all the benefits you hoped to gain from the domain name and need to start promoting your new website from scratch.

To avoid this from happening, after you have done your link search on a search engine you should then visit several of the websites that are listed as linking to your domain and check the links are actually there. You will find that in a surprising high number of cases the links you expect to find are simply missing from these webpages. If this is the case with your chosen domain, then I would suggest ignoring this domain name and finding another.

I have conducted several experiments on expired domains. If the backlinks were real and existed prior to the domain expiring, then in most cases the domain would retain its original ranking. If the backlinks were fake then within a few weeks of obtaining the expired domain all rankings were lost.

There are several services on the internet that can provide data on expiring domains, and some of these include checking to see if search engine rankings are real or fake.

The “Should I park my domain name and monetize it that way or should I develop a website?” is a pretty old debate among domainers. And I believe it’s proof that laziness will always win over sensibility.

There are a variety of ways to monetize a domain name. Most domainers who deal with a lot of domain names like to park their domains at Sedo, GoDaddy, or other services that help them monetize the name.

Others build made-for-adsense websites that have little real value, intending to get visitors to click the adsense ads. This is not much different from parking the domain names.

Very few domain name sellers or speculators develop real websites or blogs on their domain names. Why?

Even though they intend to sell their domain names, they know that this usually takes a lot of time. Finding a buyer isn’t an overnight process in most cases. Most domains that are finally sold have been owned by the speculator for years.

Parking those domain names is the way they try to cover their costs of registering the names year after year. Most of their domain names will never sell because they want way more than they are worth. Most domain speculators are hoping for that one big sale, kind of like playing the lottery.

During all that time they are holding onto their domain names, they could be building websites, doing affiliate marketing, blogging, and more. The problem is that those things require work. And we all know how much people like work.

Most people who join MLM programs, get involved in domain speculation, or fall for get rich quick schemes do not want to work. They are hoping to fall into thousands of dollars without having to do any real work.

This article won’t win me any popularity contests among domainers. But if the truth hurts, too bad. It is not ALL domainers who are lazy. There are many who work very hard at their profession. They learn to master the traffic their domain name brings in and make a business out of it.

This article is more about those who just go out and register a bunch of domain names they believe are creative, hoping that someone is going to come along someday and give them a bunch of money for what they consider to be creativity.

For some it is their second job or hobby. For others it is a habit. I’ve known domainers who mortgaged their house to buy a lot of domain names they will likely never sell for enough to cover the loan.

In my opinion, the smart move is to develop those domain names into real online businesses. If you own one-word generic domain names that have type-in traffic, this doesn’t apply to you. But if you are like most domainers and you own a bunch of made up domain names, two and three word domain names, etc., then you should think about developing those domain names into a business.

A domain name’s real value is in the traffic it generates and what that traffic may or may not buy based on the keywords that helped them find that domain or website in the first place.

Let me rephrase it again. Your domain name is not worth anything more than you registered it for when you first register the name. Once you analyze the traffic that domain gets, it may or may not increase in value.

If just parking the domain name gets very few clickthrus for the ads placed on it, then your domain name is not worth but a few pennies over the price of registration.

All it proves is that a few people who end up on that domain name will click an adsense ad. To a business, that means nothing. It doesn’t even prove that any of the traffic generated by that domain name will actually buy something.

However, if you create a business plan that matches the domain name, and you develop a website based on that business plan, and people do actually buy products, services, subscribe, join, or click through to your affiliates, you show that the domain name you own has business potential.

A business owner is much more likely to buy your domain name if it has a proven profit potential than if they just think you have a cute catchy short domain name.

It can be as easy as installing free wordpress software and picking a free theme for your blog and writing to it daily with original content.

The bonus is that it may also rank well for your keywords if you do it right and know a little about seo and social bookmarking.

If you develop a business model that is just moderately successful and you add that it has a good ranking for some key phrases, the value of your domain name is quantifiable and much more appealing to anyone that may consider buying it from you.

My opinion is based on having developed hundreds of websites and blogs and having bought and sold over 500 domain names.

There are a few people around who have bought and sold more than I have.
There are domainers who have made a lot more money than I have by monetizing their domain names or by directing the traffic from their domain names directly to websites that are owned by businesses.

But, again, they have the right domains and tools to do that with. Making up domain names or owning a bunch of 2-3 word domain names does not mean you will be one of these. You won’t be. Those I referred to in this article should begin thinking about developing their domain names if they want them to have any actual value.
